Vekic to meet Hibino in finals of Tashkent Open

Tashkent ,  October 2 :  Unseeded players  Croatian Donna Vekic and  Japanese Nao Hibino will clash with each other in the summit clash of   the 17th edition of the Tashkent Open being played  at the Olympic Tennis School complex here.

 In the semifinals 20 year old  Unknown 117 ranked Nao Hibino stalled the run of former finalist here 106 ranked Bojana Jovanovski 6-3,6-4 in 1 hr 13 mins  , while crowd favorite   and finalist in 2012 19 year old Donna Vekic of Croatia took 1 hr 19 mins to register a 7-5,6-1 win over 93rd ranked Evgeniya Rodina of Russia

 The two unranked players will clash with each other for top prize money of $43000 and most importantly 280 WTA ranking points . A win here could  help Vekic to move world ranking to around 91 from current ranking of 137 a jump of 46 places ,  and a victory for Hibino could take her to around 74 in the world from current ranking of 117 a jump of 43 places.  The final will also keep the record of Tashkent open having a new Champion every year intact. (No player has won the Tashkent open twice)

In the first match of the day 2013 winner and 2014 runners-up at Tashkent  Bojana   started as the favorite  , but was broken early in the first set  by Hibino. Hibino played to a plan and started moving the tired looking Bojana early in the match and forced her into errors winning the first  set  6-3 in  just 25 minutes.

Hibino looked unstoppable using the forehand loop and backhand cross winners  to her advantage , Hibino hit around 14 back hand winners in 3 games to unnerve Bojana who was   looking  good to make her third straight final at Tashkent .

Hibino led 4-1 , before Bojana came back to level scores to 4-4. Hibino held on to her serve in the 9th game and broke the tired looking Bojana in the 10th game to record a win and a spot in the first ever WTA tour final

"   I was nervous today  before the match  playing at such a big stage , but  I'm very happy and I think lucky , it's like a dream I can't believe I  made the final . I played good and aggressive and happy to have won . I'm not thinking who I will play tomorrow in the finals  but will go all out " said a beaming Hibino.

The second semifinals between crowd favorite  Donna Vekic and the experienced Evgeniya Rodina  in the first set , the  scores went level till 5-5  with both players holding on . In the 12th game Vekic hit two scorching  forehand winners to break Rodina and pocket the first set 7-5 .

In the second set some close matches seemed to have sapped Rodina  who looked out of sorts . Rodina went down without a fight and gave up the set tamely at 6-1 and passage for Vekic into the final , her second here after 2012.

" It's great feeling to be in the finals and I'm thrilled , but I'm happier that I'm playing well and regaining my confidence " said Vekic after the match

Russian pair of Margarita Gasparyan  and Alexandra Panova will clash with    the Russian - Czech pair of Vera Dushevina and Katerina Siniakova in the women's doubles finals .

In the semifinal   played yesterday  Margarita Gasparyan  and Alexandra Panova   led  6-4,2-1 before Anna-Lena Friedsam and Katarzyna Piter retired. In the other semifinal played today the Vera Dushevina and Katerina Siniakova scored a 7-5, 7-6(4) win over wildcards Ekaterina Bychkova of Russia and Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland
