Beck gets top billing at 17th edition of Tashkent Open

Tashkent ,  September 26 :  Winner at Quebec City last week ,  Annika Beck of Germany   has been given the top Billing  , while her compatriot Carina Witthoeft will be the second seed at the   17th edition of the edition of the Tashkent Open which gets underway  at the Olympic Tennis Complex here on Monday.

 The draws to the 17th edition of the Tashkent Open were made here by  WTA supervisor  Martina Lutkova along with the  Referee  Nitin Kannamwar  in presence of top seeded  Beck ,  Tournament Director S. Uthrapathy and  Saidazim Khasanov from Mayors office  .      

 In the lots drawn today  the quarterfinal line up  projects  rematch of   Quebec Final  featuring top seed Beck and seventh seeded   Jelena Ostapenko  ,   Second seeded  Witthoeft  could  take on sixth seeded Margarita Gasparyan winner of this year's Baku Cup ,   third seeded  Polona Hercog of Slovakia could  play fifth seeded Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic ,  while fourth seeded   Johanna Larsson of Sweden could clash with eighth seeded Romanian Andreea Mitu in the last eight clash .

In some close first round encounters former winner here Bojana Jovanovski   will take on seventh seeded   Jelena Ostapenko,  of Latvia,  eight seeded  Andreea Mitu  has a match on hand as she takes on experienced Kazakh Yaraslova Shvedova in the opener.  Local wildcard Sabina Sharipova has been drawn to take on Jana Cepelova of Slovkia  , while another wildcard Nigina Abduraimova will take on qualifier.

Speaking at the draw ceremony Annika Beck said she was   honored to be at the draw ceremony a first for her  and looked forward to having a good week ahead.  When asked about her first round opponent Elizavet Kulichkova of Russia , Beck said "  I have never played her before , she is young and already in top 100 and am  looking forward to playing her ".



Martina Lutkova the WTA Supervisor    said that the Field for this edition of the Tashkent Open was very strong and some close matches are on the cards. She Complimented the professional running of the Tashkent Open and termed it as one of the popular events with players on the WTA tour  .

 S. Uthrapathy  tournament director since the inception of the Tashkent Open said that he was extremely pleased with the player list and mentioned it was one of the toughest Tashkent Open , he also thanked the Uzbekistan Tennis Federation for their efforts to promote tennis in the region.
