Battle lines for 11th Tashkent open WTA Championships drawn.

• Shvedova , Peer lead seeding list

Tashkent, September 20: Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan and Shahar Peer of Israel will be the top two seeds at the 11th edition of the Tashkent Open a Sony Ericsson WTA tour event which get underway at the Olympic Tennis School.

At the draws made today Shvedova will meet Third seeded Iona Raluca Olaru of Romania in the last four, Fifth seeded Stefanie Voegele (Sui) and sixth seeded Monica Niculescu (Rou) also feature in the top half of the draw.

Shahar Peer fresh from her victory at Guangzhou WTA is drawn to clash with Fourth seeded Olga Govortsova of Belarus in the semifinals , the lower half of the draw also features seventh seeded Austrian Patricia Mayr and 8th seeded Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva .

Local star Akgul Amanmuradova has been drawn to play a qualifier and victory will set up her clash with third seeded Ioana Raluca Olaru in the second round

Uzbek players Nigina Abduraimova, Aleksandra Kolesnichenko and Sabina Sharapova have been awarded Wild cards for the event. In the first round Nigina will take on a qualifier, Aleksandra will battle it out with Vesna Manasieva , while Sabina will clash with Katrin Woerle in the first round.

The secretary General of the Uzbekistan Tennis Federation Igor Shepelov, Tournament Director S Uthrapathy and the WTA supervisor Martina Lutkova and Mr. Alisher Khamrakulov representing the Tashkent Mayor’s office conducted the draw at the Tashkent Palace Hotel, local favorite Akgul Amanmuradova and top seeded Yaroslva Shvedova Kazakhstan were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at today’s draw ceremony WTA Tour Supervisor Martina Lutkova said: “There are at least 6 players in the top 75 who are in the event and, in good form and expected a great tournament .She also thanked the City of Tashkent and the Uzbekistan tennis Federation for such a lovely tournament

As tournament Director S Uthrapathy said at the ceremony: “This year we are offering a prize money fund of $ 225000. We are also glad that the event this year has a higher ranking cutoff than the previous years”. “I’m sure that the competition will be intense as we have a pool of talented players”, he added.
Speaking to the media at the draw ceremony the top seeded Yaroslva Shvedova said “ I’ll try my best to win the title , I have been playing well , and have had good rest after the US Open . While Amanmuradova the crowd favorite said “that playing in front of the home crowds in Tashkent was both a lot of pleasure and pressure”.

“I would also lot of not like to make promises, but let my game do the talking. This year I’ve played lot of doubles and have a career high ranking in doubles , but , my singles ranking is low due to a few injuries , but I’m back now “ , she added.
