Third seeded Belgian Alison Van Utyvanck to take on former champion Romanian Sorana Cirstea in final of 21st Tashkent Open

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan -  The suspense over the Tashkent Jinx   , where no player has come back to win the title for the second time will continue    a day more  as third seeded  Alison Van Uytvanck of  Belgium making her debut will take on former winner here and eighth seeded Sorana Cirstea of Romania in the finals of the  21st Tashkent Open WTA Championships  being played at the  at the Olympic School Tennis Complex here

In the semifinals today  third seeded  Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium averted a mid set crisis to overcome 5th seeded Krystina Pliskova 6-3,7-5 in One  hour and 25 minutes  , in the other semifinal  No.8 seed Sorana Cirstea swept into her second final in the Uzbek capital, dismissing the unseeded Katarina Zavatska 6-0, 6-3 in One  hour and 14 minutes.

In the  Alison -  Krystina semifinal  Alison broke Pliskova in the 5th game of the  first set and went on to win the set 6-3.    In the second  set Alison  started well and broke Kristyna in the second game of the second set to go up 2-0 ,  and then held a tight 3rd game to go up 3-0 . Kristyna held on to the fourth game to get the score to 3-1 , Alison then  held the fifth to go up  4-1,   In the 6th game Alison held to go up 5-2 .

 An interesting 7th game   saw a drop shot , forehand cross court winner ,  a backhand  volley  ,  a double fault ,  and then two aces that  ensured Pliskova ,   holding  on to take  the scores to  5-3

In 8th game   Alison played tentatively  serving  2 Double faults   which saw her broken at Love  and letting  Pliskova be back   at 4-5 .

 Pliskova held the 10th to level scores at 5-5 , Alison held on to the 11th game with a classic drop to go up 6-5 . In the 12th  game Pliskova Saved a Match point at 30-40 with good serve , put could not  do enough to save the  2nd match point and went down to Alison   who is making her debut in Tashkent

" It wasn’t  an easy match  , it was quite windy I'm  happy to be in the first final also on my first visit to Tashkent ,  I will Continue to play my game and not think too much about the finals tomorrow

I Have played  Sorana    2 times  before and lost both times , . Sorana did well during the tournament, definitely, the match will be tough. But she will play her best.  I  will surely give everything," said the 25 year old  61st world ranked Belgian who had lost to Kristyna  earlier at Vendryne in 2011 .

While Alison  will look to take her 4th WTA Career title of her career and the first one on debut here  , she  will be  challenged by 8th seeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea who is back in the finals  Eleven years after lifting her first Tashkent Open trophy, as an 18-year-old

In the other semifinals  Sorana Cirstea moved into her first WTA final in over six years at the Tashkent Open, winning the first nine games and withstanding a late fight back against 19-year-old Katarina Zavatska winning 6-0,6-3

 Cirstea successfully dominated her 19-year-old opponent to reach her fourth overall - and   become the sixth player in Tashkent's history to reach two finals,  and also  bid to become the tournament's first two-time champion in its 21st and final year.

 Cirstea's  started  smoothly from the outset as the 29-year-old began rifling winners off both wings,   conceding  10 points in total   as she continued to blitz winners to capture the first set  6-0 and go up 3-0  . First-time WTA semifinalist  and World No.142  Zavatska, by contrast, was unable to get anything going for too long in the biggest match of her career to  her  shoulders slumped during the first changeover of the second set as her woes continued

 

 Zavatska  fought back    to  hold - and then to break a suddenly error-prone Cirstea.  Ultimately, Zavatska   rued the two marathon service games as she sought to level the scores .  The teenager  broke  Cirstea twice, but could not   hold despite having  multiple chances,   falling  behind 2-4    and then  3-5  .  Cirstea steadied herself to serve out   and take the match on the   third match point .

" I'm grateful and very happy to be in my first final of the year , I played well for one  and half part of the match , but backed off a bit , with Katrina raising her level  . I  played solidly at the end of the match and happy to go through in two sets  . I will have to keep the momentum going  tommorrow , its never going to be easy  in the finals but  I look forward to it ." said Cirstea who will look to become the first player in 21 years to win the tournament twice.

In the Doubles semifinals    Hayley Carter of USA and Luisa Stefani  of  Brazil outplayed   Britian's Harriet Dart    and Danka Kovinic of Montenegro  6-1, 6-3  , they set up the final clash with third seeds   Dalila Jakupovic of Slovenia and  Sabrina Santamaria of USA who carved out a  6-2 , 6-3 win over Canada's     Sharon Fichman  and Germany's  Tatjana Maria
