Interview - Marketa Vondrousova

18 year old and fifth seeded Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic zoomed past her opponent Misa Eguchi of Japan in 45 minutes in the opening match of the 19th edition of the Tashkent Open Championships, the youngest player of the tournament has shown the same urgency in climbing the ladders on the WTA tour moving 358 places on  the WTA rankings since February this year .

An injury as a junior forced her to be off the tennis courts for over 6 months , Marketa made most of the layoff coming back stronger and moving into the professional tennis circuit which seems to be a right decision she and her team made >

Sunder Iyer of the Tashkent Open media team spoke to her about her amazing journey so far

Q: A very fast first round match today ?

Ans; I already feel comfortable with courts and playing well  happy to have made a good start 

Q: Tell us about your amazing journey so far ?

Ans :  I was playing junior events till last year and  I stopped after the Junior tennis Rolland Garros where I reached the first round after a injury , This injury put me out for nearly six months and I started playing the senior events starting the year with 15k events , this year has been great so far as I won a 100k event in Slovakia  followed by a  75k event  in Prague and the first ever WTA title at Biel which helped me to move into the top 100 in the very first season I turned Pro , so this truly has been a dream run so far , I never expected a   journey this fast


Q: You have been able to negotiate Graduating into Pro level events well ?

Ans: At the  junior is it was quite easy one wins many matches as opponents just give up when they are down , but here in the pro tournaments every match is tough and every point is fought till end and to fight till the end is the biggest lesson I have learnt and I know its tough and will work hard .


Q: Best moment of the Year So far ?

Ans :  I was selected to  represent my nation in the Fed Cup and got to play  both singles  , it was a  great experience  but sadly we lost the tie , but it gave me  lot of confidence , 


Q: The moment that triggered her  decision to be a professional player ?

 Ans : I was Just 12 years old when Petra Kvitova won the Wimbledon Championships , that win inspired me to become a professional tennis player  and that made me look at tennis as a  sport seriously


Q :  Favorite player, and managing education on a busy professional circuit ?

Ans:  I Like Roger Federer,  

I'm last year of high school but am able to manage my studies along with with tennis  I'm able to write  online tests , I would like to mention my parents here and they have given me amazing support ,


Q : Your Goals ?

Ans; Of course I want to go as high as possible , play good tennis and stay on the tour for a longer time


Q:  Thoughts on Tashkent Open ?

Ans : It’s a nice tournament , I like the courts , the hotel and people are very nice.
