Interview of the day - Maria- Teresa Torro Flor

11 September 2013

Having made it to the top 100 last year , the 21 year old Maria Teresa Torro Flor knocked out reigning champion Irina - Camelia Begu to make it to the second quarterfinal at the Tour events

Having reached the last eight at Bogota this year , the win here against the top seed, has given the Spaniard much needed confidence .

She spoke to the Tashkent Open Media Team :

About her match against Reigning champion Begu:
I knew she will be under pressure to defend the title , I remained focused on the match. I played very well in the first set ,put lot of balls in , Irina also made a lot of mistakes . I got a little nervous at the begining of the second set and went down 0-3 but regained composure and started playing freely thereafter.

On playing on Hard Courts and in Asia
Coming from Spain I’m basically a clay court player and very comfortable on clay , I did not have good results on the hard courts last year , but now I’m starting to feel better on hard courts . Last year I played here , I was not comfortable with the style of play also , but now in the second year in Asian continent I’m feeling more comfortable and getting used to the flat and faster style of the girls.

On the Year so far.
It has been a tough year as I have to defend a lot of points from the last year , I have traveled a lot too. I’m feeling much more confident now than at the beginning of the year.

On Tashkent Open
It’s my second year , here , It’s a nicely organized event and would like to come back again
