Interview of the day - Petra Cetkovska

Czech Olympian Petra Cetkovska has been out of tennis for  around nine months due to injuries on her knees and foot . Overcoming all ailments and injuries she is trying to get back to where she left. Having spent two years in Top 100 and reaching her career best ranking of 55 at end of 2012.

Petra Cetkovska  who reached the 3rd round at Roland Garros losing to Vinci and also the  3rd round at Wimbledon falling to  Stephens. Her aim for this year is to get back into the Top 100.

She spoke to the Tashkent Open Media team after quelling the challenge of talented Local Girl Nigina Abduraimova in straight sets.

On her Match today

I’m Happy with the start and to have got through a good first round. Compliments to Nigina she is a talented player and I didn’t know what to expect from my young opponent.  I am happy the way I played, the   courts are fast and weather is warm.

On being out of action for nearly Nine months

I went through a tough time being out for 9 months due to a lot of injuries on my knees and  foot. It takes time to come back, but now I feel better and strong with every passing day.  My aim is to prevent any more injuries and keep myself feet to get back to top 100 by the end of this year.

On life outside the Tennis courts

It was difficult for me to be off the tennis courts , but i had no option but to have rest ,  I Enjoyed life with my family and friends ,   spent more social time and did things I liked .  

About Playing for  Czech Republic  at Olympics

I’m  Proud to represent a small country ,  It was an experience to be with players like Djokovic , Stepanek Safarova, Kvitova ,Hlavackova,Hradecka  in the team ,  these players  inspired me  and helped me too

On the Tashkent Open

I have come back here after three years and find great  improvement  in the event and the city , the tournament is being organized very well and players are looked after very well, The  event has got   everything needed for any big event and I’m thrilled to be back.
